Gaby Akana -Vice President
Gaby is the Assistant Head of School and Middle School Division Head at Turning Point, a Montessori-inspired Preschool to Grade 8 independent school in Culver City.
During her tenure at Turning Point, Gaby has led program initiatives such as building their Innovation Labs, their accreditation through CAIS (California Association of Independent Schools), and their certification for CIS (Council of International Schools). Gaby has also served on several Turning Point Board Committees, such as Strategic Planning, Branding, Mission Review, and most recently, on the Long-term Planning Committee.
Before joining Turning Point in 1996, Gaby taught preschool in Irvine, CA, and Kindergarten on the island of Saipan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Gaby received her BA in Social Sciences and Cultural Anthropology from UC Irvine and her MA in Education from Pepperdine University. Gaby brings to the Board over 20 years of experience as an educator, administrator, and leader in the greater Los Angeles independent school community.
