Toddler Program: 18 Months - 3 Years

The Toddler Community is designed to meet the needs of children 18 months to 3 years. This environment provides children with a special place to participate in activities that support age-appropriate development.

The Toddler environment is divided into two areas: practical life exercises and language acquisition. The Exercises of Practical Life are the everyday activities in which children of this age love to participate. They help the child in developing concentration, focus, and coordinated movement, and are instrumental in the child’s quest for independence. A few examples of these activities include sweeping, plant care, food preparation, window washing, and toileting. Language is introduced through stories, books, songs, picture cards, and conversations with other children and adults.

“As we watch Henry and James experience more and more of the world around them, we are thankful that our sons can develop, grow and thrive in a supportive, child-centered community like OKMS. This is James’ final year in Primary and we have watched our shy toddler grow into a confident, socially-engaged child who loves to read, draw, talk, sign, and play with his little brother. Henry also enjoys his time in the Toddler program where he has learned to engage and experience the world in the cheerful, carefully-structured environment at the Lake Campus. When our sons are older, we know they will be able to look back with fondness on the wisdom of experience they gained during their formative years at Oak Knoll.
